Dublin
KNOWN FOR GROWING LEGENDS
Dublin
may be best known for creating legends: rough and tumble rodeo cowboys, the
best Dr Pepper you’ll ever taste and Grand Slam champion golfer Ben Hogan
are on the list. Learn more by browsing the three local museums-The Rodeo Heritage
Museum, Dublin Dr Pepper Museum and Old Doc’s Soda Shop and the Dublin
Historical Museum. Legend has it that the town got its name, not from the Leprechauns,
which are said to visit each year for St. Pat’s Day celebration, but from
the practice early settlers had of “doubling” their wagons in circles
at night for protection on the open prairie. In the 40s and 50s Dublin was headquarters
for the World Championship Rodeo and cowboys, cowgirls and their livestock left
town on the “rodeo train” headed for performances at Madison Square
Garden and other big cities up north. Visit the world’s oldest Dr Pepper
Bottling Company where history is still being made using the original recipe
with pure cane sugar, not corn syrup. Chamber of Commerce, 108 S. Patrick, P.O.
