Hamlin
Reflecting the Past, Living the
Present, Building the Future
Perched
on a wide prairie between two forks of the Brazos River, the town of Hamlin,
founded in 1906, was born at the crossroads of four major railroads serving
the new frontier. It was in Hamlin that Col. Morgan Jones drove the last spike
of over 800 miles of track. Just thirty years earlier, the buffalo hunters had
roamed the area exterminating the last of the great southern herd. To commemorate
this era in Texas history, residents host a historical festival, known as “Back
to Rath’s Trail”, focusing on the life and times of Rath City. This
quiet, rural community also celebrates the legend and story of the Pied Piper
each fall with an annual Homecoming, complete with a theme-based parade and
numerous activities. Just as the Pied Piper enticed the children into the cave,
many visitors find themselves unable to resist the lure and tranquility offered
by this spirited city. Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 402, 245 S. Central Ave,
